Blue Zones is an organization that was founded in 2004 by Dan Buettner. He joined forces with National Geographic to search for the healthiest places in the world and to find out what makes them healthier. Their goal is to make the world a better place by making it easier for people to choose healthy lifestyles, whether that be in your environment or who you surround yourself with. They focus on six primary pillars: leadership, purpose, habitat/physical environment, engagement/creation of social networks, policies and benefits and well-being solutions. Cedar Falls is among the first cities in Iowa to be Blue Zones Certified, and UNI AMA is the first campus organization to be Blue Zones Certified.
